I work with physical ordeal in my dances in order to foreground the exertion, exhaustion, effort, and error of the performers in my work. At the same time, I use delineated patterns to bring an imaginary architecture to life in space -- for just a moment. I work to create a constant shifting back and forth between that imaginary architecture and the human beings who articulate it. I use structural constraints to reveal softness, failures, humanity.
